Universal’s First Collaboration with The Pokémon Company to be New Parade in Japan Next Year

Alicia Stella Theme Park News

Universal Studios Japan and The Pokémon Company announced their new partnership only a week ago, but today have unveiled their first joint project.

Pokemon characters will appear in a new parade for the park beginning next spring. The new No Limit! Parade will feature characters from many of the attractions around the park, including for the first time, Super Mario Bros. now that Super Nintendo World is officially open.

The new parade will not only feature characters and floats based on Pokemon and Nintendo, but also Illumination’s Minions and Sing, Peanuts, Sesame Street and Hello Kitty. Universal Studios Japan says of the new parade:

The dynamic parade will feature, spectacular floats, outrageous street performers, colorful costumes, high-energy music, and non-stop entertainment. Guests will dance through the decades of music from everything from 60’s rock to modern electronic dance music. Families will celebrate and let loose with their favorite characters as they pass by on themed floats representing the diverse dance styles.

Universal Studios Japan said last week that there are multiple projects related to Pokémon underway, and that the one scheduled to debut in 2022 will only be the first. Today they are saying that the inclusion of Pokémon characters in the No Limit! Parade will be their first collaboration, so that will likely be all we’ll see for next year.

Universal Studios Japan also recently announced that the Donkey Kong expansion for Super Nintendo World would be opening in 2024. With the announcement of the parade featuring Pokémon in 2022, could that still leave 2023 open for something else related to Pokémon or Nintendo for the park in between?

Both Universal Studios Japan and The Pokémon Company promised to develop new interactive experiences that combine innovative technologies using extraordinary creativity, so I am sure this is only the beginning of a beautiful relationship.

While the announcement of a new working relationship between the two companies may also open the door to new attractions or lands based on Pokémon for other Universal Parks around the world, so far all of the announcements have been specifically for Universal Studios Japan.

We’ll keep you posted on all of the projects Universal Parks along with both Nintendo or Pokemon plan to work on in the coming years, and whether or not we think they may make their way to Orlando, or the rest of the world, as it happens!
