The all-new table service restaurant being built next door to Mission: Space at Epcot will be opening in 2019. This is according to a new announcement from Walt Disney World today.
Rumored to be named “Space 220,” the new dining location will be operated by Patina Restaurant Group. It will feature internationally-inspired cuisine, more than 1,000 bottles of the world’s finest wines and a wide selection of craft beer.
This new dining location was first announced at the D23 Expo in July 2017. The entire experience will involve guests transporting to a space station orbiting the earth. Diners will be able to see out into space through a 250-foot-long digital screen along the wall of the curved dining room, which will act as a window.
The dining room is rumored to hold around 350 guests. Guests will access the dining room via one of two space elevators, also equipped with digital screens to simulate their ascent to the space station.
The rumored “Space 220” name comes to us from a job post listing on the official Patina Restaurant Group website. The job listing said they were looking to recruit European candidates to represent their home country on the space station themed restaurant. This sounds similar to the way actual residents represent the nations around World Showcase at Epcot as well.
Given the international space station theme for the new dining location, it makes sense that in today’s announcement, Disney has revealed that the menu will feature “internationally-inspired cuisine.” The new restaurant will also feature a space bar serving “the world’s finest wines and a wide selection of craft beer.”
The new space-themed restaurant is planned to open sometime this year.
