Private Cabana Rentals Ending Next Month at Magic Kingdom

Alicia Stella Theme Park News

After receiving some backlash from Disney fans and guests, Disney is pulling the plug on its pricey private cabana rentals located in Tomorrowland in the Magic Kingdom. They will no longer be available after February 17, 2017.

The cabanas were introduced in November as a test to see if there was interest in this type of high-scale luxury up-charges from Disney World guests. Originally the cost was nearly $700 per day for one of these shaded structures, but the cost was later dropped to $500, which Disney described as a “seasonal change.”

The cabanas seat up to 8 guests and include seating, a small fridge with soda and water, small bags of chips, charging station, complimentary personalized mouse ears for everyone in your party and one novelty ice cream per guest. You would also have access to a special Tomorrowland menu (menu food not included with cabana rental price) and a personal server will bring it to you.

A Disney spokeswoman said the cabanas had been planned as a test running through mid-February. No word on whether the negative press had anything to do with the timing of the closure. Fans have been vocal about the unthemed tents ruining the well crafted theming of Tomorrowland.

Rumors say this is only a test to see if more permanent, (and better hidden or themed) rentals would be a profitable option for the company to offer year-round. Some rumored locations would be in rooms above the Tomorrowland Terrace or Cosmic Rays restaurants (air conditioned locations rather than tents.)

Disney World already offers up-charge dessert parties and fireworks viewing events at the Tomorrowland Terrace and over the last few years has been offering more and more high-scale perks for wealthy visitors. We’ll have to wait and see if a more permanent cabana-type rental program is put into place later, or if this test has in fact failed.
