While the resort prepares for the arrival of Hurricane Ian, construction is still happening within the Shrek replacement, work walls are down in front of Universal’s upcoming escape rooms, and more is going on around Universal Orlando.
Let’s check in on a few projects around the resort in today’s photo update. See the video below for different views of all the projects as well!
First up, in CityWalk, work walls have been removed since yesterday in front of the resort’s upcoming escape room attraction.
Named “Universal’s Great Movie Escape,” not many official details have been announced for this separately ticketed attraction, except that it was planned to open this Fall.
The official description says: “Universal’s Great Movie Escape will bring two distinct and extraordinary escape adventures to the heart of Universal CityWalk. Through interactive state-of-the-art missions, captivating storytelling and intricately detailed sets, guests will be swept into the dinosaur adventures of Jurassic World or the time-traveling chaos of Back to the Future as they solve their way through a multi-sensory experience like no other.”
Some have theorized that the walls came down last night in preparation of the incoming hurricane, which is possible, but work walls remain up around various other active projects, including one in the middle of CityWalk.
Moving into Universal Studios Florida, banners have been roller up and the Halloween Horror Nights medallion has been taken down in preparation of the incoming hurricane.
The banner at Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit that was just previously put back up after years of being absent, has already been removed again, less than a week later, in preparation for the hurricane.
Over in the Hollywood area of the park, permits seem to indicate interior work happening at the former Prop Shop store.
Universal has not announced a replacement for this small retail space, but permits say interior wall modification may be happening inside.
We’ll keep you posted on this project, as it happens.
The biggest projects happening at the park right now appear to be related to the Minions. The former Shrek 4-D attraction is being replaced with what is rumored to be a Minions interactive shooter attraction. And the former Monsters Cafe is rumored to become a Minion Cafe. Neither of these projects have been confirmed, but Minions do appear on the work walls.
For the first time in weeks, physical changes can be visible at the entrance to the former Shrek attraction. New steel is going up, presumably for a new marquee.
Black trim has been added along the roof line for this soundstage structure as well this week.
Work can also be heard inside the building, which is rumored to contain a new shooter attraction that will utilize a moving walkway you stand upon, instead of a ride vehicle.
Sounds like the mischievous Minions are hard at work building something. pic.twitter.com/LhXXfFz7IA

Nearby at the former Monsters Cafe, not much has changed recently, except that plastic is being placed over openings in the partially demolished structure ahead of the hurricane.
That’s all for now, but be sure to stay safe over the next few days! And stay tuned for more theme park news and updates.
