According to recent permit activity, it appears a new attraction is being developed for the Dark Universe section of Universal Epic Universe. This is the world where the Universal Monsters roam.
The new future attraction would be a third ride for the land, after “Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment” indoor attraction and “Curse of the Werewolf” spinning roller coaster.
The new permit details filed with the Orange County Government, which were first discovered by Theme Park Wizard, are only for site work at this time.
The new details tie into a prior permit we have discussed, which was explicitly listed for “Mass grading, utility points of connection, and re-routes for early work purposes of a future attraction known as Project 680.”
Comment notes on today’s permit mention “Area 680,” a likely reference to the project 680 permit from before, as well as a new building. The new building is listed as building 1570.
All buildings that start with 15XX are for structures only located within the Dark Universe section of the park, which places our mystery Project 680 within the Dark Universe limits.
It’s worth noting that the original permit which described this project as mass grading and early work for a “future attraction” was later edited to only say “site work,” and then ultimately deleted. It’s possible this new permit we are discussing today is its replacement.
Universal has not confirmed that an expansion is heading for the Dark Universe area of Epic Universe, and the permit itself is still only in the early phases, so it may be a while before we see any work begin on the ground.
Universal did however, hint at something regarding the Wizarding World expansion in the same park.
Just a few days ago, on Friday, May 22nd, the first anniversary since the park’s grand opening, Project director Anisha Vyas said “There’s always more magic coming out of Epic Universe, especially in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, but I think that’s all I can say for now.”
The Wizarding World expansion project at Epic Universe has seen permits for its 150,000 square foot building to be constructed on what will likely be a massive new indoor attraction.

So far only survey markers have been seen in the expansion plot for The Wizarding World, but 14 contractor trailers have arrived to the site ahead of work to begin.

Rumors and speculation for the Potter project has it as some sort of flying broomstick attraction, possibly utilizing single rail roller coaster track, but those details have not been confirmed at this time.
Early speculation online for the possible Dark Universe expansion project have it being based around Bride of Frankenstein, a popular meet and greet character around Darkmoor village who is not yet represented on either of the land’s rides.
Former rumors for the expansion plot, which is located behind the Monsters Unchained ride building, along Kirkman Rd., involved the Creature from the Black Lagoon. Currently it is believed that that monster, who is represented on Monsters Unchained, will no longer be receiving his own ride
See our recent in-park update video, below, for more rumors and speculation on both the Monsters expansion and the Potter expansion. And stay tuned to Park Stop as we continue to uncover details surrounding these two, much needed, possible expansions to Universal Epic Universe.
Big thanks to Theme Park Wizard for sharing the new permit details and being the first to discover them. You can follow him on the web and YouTube.
