Alicia Stella Theme Park News

During the Destination D23 event happening now at the Walt Disney World Resort, Disney Parks, Experiences and Products Chairman Josh D’Amaro announced some new details for experiences coming to EPCOT.

New concept art and an opening timeframe of Summer 2022 for Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind was revealed. This means that the new roller coaster attraction will technically open within the resort’s 18-month 50th anniversary celebration.

Guests of Destination D23 have been able to get their photo take seated in one of the roller coaster cars for the new Cosmic Rewind attraction. And this morning Josh D’Amaro announced that the new attraction will officially open in the summer of 2022.

D’Amaro also shared two new pieces of concept art for an area of the queue named The Xandar Gallery. The queue will be themed as a welcome center where we can learn about Xandar, a planet from the Guardians of the Galaxy films.

One final reveal for this attraction, actress Glenn Close will be reprising her role as Nova Prime, the Xandarian leader and commander of the Nova Corps. As part of this announcement, a brief video was released featuring the actress.

Disney has also confirmed this morning that filming with the actors for the new ride has begun, saying “Disney Imagineers were recently on-set for “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” to film with the Guardians for this new attraction.”

Featuring a reverse launch, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind will be one of the longest indoor coasters in the world when it opens next summer. See our last story for more details about the ride track, and a construction update from this week.
